If you would like our honest opinion, there is no way that you will be able to go truly deep with your meditation until you get away from your phones, computers and apps, perhaps heading on some silent meditation retreat.

This great little app costs just £1.49 and is well worth it! Sometimes, the hardest part of meditation is sticking to a routine and remembering to practice.

You can use this app to motivate yourself and set reminders for meditation sessions, based on the time or even on your location!

2. Headspace

This meditation app offers a free 10-day trial of guided meditation complete with cute and quirky graphics.  The straightforward, clear advice is great for those new to meditation, and after your trial you can continue to subscribe to the service for a low monthly fee.

3. Mindfulness Meditation by Mental Workout

This is a best-selling app is well worth £1.49 and is the closest you’ll come to experiencing guided meditation with a teacher, without having a real teacher! With options for beginners and those who are more experienced, the 8-week program features inspirational talks, guided meditation practice and instructions for relaxation.

4. Simply Being

There are several apps like this available – this one provides relaxing music and sounds as well as short guided meditation sessions.  Easy to use, affordable (69p!) and customisable, this is a great little app.

5. Walking Meditations by Meditation Oasis

This is a meditation app with a difference – guided meditation for when you’re on the go.  Just plug in your headphones, and enjoy one of three different walking meditations. There’s also a handy diary which helps you to track your progress and stay motivated.

6. Buddhify

The Sun named this app their number one health app, and it aims to merge meditation with a busy, modern lifestyle. The simple, easy to use design and customisation options make this app a popular choice, and there are different guides for use at home, at the gym or for when you’re out and about.

The relaxing guided meditations are the ideal way to try meditation for the first time, or to stay motivated with your meditation practice.

7. Smiling Mind

This app has been specifically designed for the younger generation, and is designed to make meditation accessible, easy and most importantly, fun! Catering for all ages from 7-11 years to adult, the app provides guided meditation and reminders to help you stay motivated to practice.

All of these apps are available for iOS whilst some are also available for Android devices.  Downloading and using an app is a great introduction to the world of meditation, but they can also be a powerful tool to help you stay motivated and on track with your meditation practice.

For those who don’t have access to a meditation teacher or who can’t afford a weekend away at a spiritual retreat, meditation apps are the next best thing!
