It would be hard not to know what the pink ribbons that you see everywhere stand for. Thanks to great effort on the part of breast cancer awareness groups, pink ribbons can be found on products at the grocery store and on celebrities on national television. You can’t miss them. Not all awareness ribbons are so well known, but with your help, they could be. Take the time to learn about some of the different awareness ribbons that you could wear, display, and promote to help in the fight against cancer and disease.
The black ribbon is the melanoma awareness ribbon. Melanoma is a very serious type of skin cancer. The black ribbon is also used for narcolepsy, sleep apnea, and other sleep disorders. Outside of medical awareness, the black ribbon is used in remembrance and mourning for the victims of the 9/11 attacks and the Virginia Tech massacre.
The gold ribbon is used to bring awareness to childhood cancers. It’s also the ribbon for several different types of tumors, including alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma, neuroblastoma, and osteosarcoma.
