Fertility Treatments: A Hopeful Destination to Cure Infertility

In spite of dedicated efforts, numerous couples across the globe fail to give birth to babies, and the cause is nothing but – infertility! The outcomes of infertility are childlessness, frustration and depression. However, medical science and research work in this field has progressed to such an extent that anxious couples who face infertility problems can now see a ray of hope and witness ultimate happiness.

Infertility issues are not limited to men or women. While women are more prone to infertility problems, even men are at high risk. However, treatment is available for both the genders. Doctors suggest that if a woman is unable to get pregnant even after 12 months of unprotected sex, then there are some serious fertility issues between the partners. Early detection and diagnosis of problems will definitely solve infertility and allow couples to produce healthy babies.

Men’s Infertility:

Men infertility occurs mainly due to improper sperm production and transport. First step is detection of infertility problems. A sample of sperm and semen is collected to assess sperm count, movement, and other factors that contribute to pregnancy. After this, testicular biopsy suggests if men are making sufficient sperms. If their testicles are capable of good sperm production, then there is a probability of blockage somewhere. Some genetic and hormonal issues may also affect healthy sperm production and transport. However, the good news is that mostly infertility are reversible. Cases of varicocele (collection of veins above testicles) and sperm transport problems are treated with surgery, whereas genetic and hormonal issues may be solved using medicines.

Women’s Infertility:

Women infertility occurs due to the inefficiency of ovaries to release eggs. Sometime ovaries are healthy enough to release eggs; however, blockage in the fallopian tube makes conception very difficult. Endometrial tissue growth hampers the fertility of women. Some women are victims of Poly Cystic Ovaries, a condition in which they do not regularly ovulate which makes conception difficult. Clomiphene and Metmorphin are drugs that enhance ovulation. Tubular surgery to remove blockage and laproscopic surgery to cure endometriosis are traditional solutions. Apart from this, careful diet and exercise balance have proven to solve infertility greatly in women.

Techniques for Advanced Cure of Infertility:

However, in spite of trying all the procedures as mentioned above, if a couple fails to give birth, they must focus on the advanced Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART). The newer technologies include intrauterine insemination(lUI) to facilitate injection of sperms directly onto the uterus using a needle, and is effective in case of male infertility. Intracytoplasrnic spem injection (ICSI) is a technique adopted for very low sperm count.

A sperm is injected into an egg, and the pair is finally implanted on the uterus in the process. Artificial Insemination is efficient for women where a huge amount of male sperm is injected into the women’s uterus. Another efficient technique that solves infertility problem is the In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) in which, sperms and eggs are collected and mixed in a test tube. Fertilized eggs are then placed onto the uterus. This is effective in solving both male and female infertility. Gamete Intrafallopian Transfer (GIFT) is the injection of artificially mixed eggs and sperms directly into the fallopian tubes of women and this technique has gathered much success these days.

Zygote intrafallopian Transfer (ZIFT) is another variation of GIFT where the doctor ensures that the eggs are fertilized after mixing before he injects them. Very modern techniques include sperm donors and egg donors. If the female have problems in producing eggs, eggs from another women is mixed with the male’s sperm and the pair is implanted into the women’s uterus by IVF. Similar are the techniques for men who are inefficient in sperm production. Surrogacy is another common solution to infertility problems. Another women carries the embryo in her womb and gives birth to the baby.

There are large possibilities of curing infertility which serves as a great news for married couples. Moreover, there lies tremendous potential owing to the ongoing research in this field. So, if you have not been able to become a mother or father, just do not worry! Consult your doctor immediately, enhance the happy encounter of a sperm and an egg, and walk away proudly with a baby in your arms soon!
