Are you not satisfied with your current level of fitness or current appearance? You may feel like you’re exercising properly, but still aren’t getting the best results. The problem could be that you’re simply not doing the best type of exercise to suit your needs.

First, you need to identify what you want out of your exercise routine. Do you want to slim down and lose weight? Do you want to bulk up and increase your weight? Or do you want to remain at your current weight by cutting fat and adding muscle? The answer to these questions will determine what type of exercises you should be doing. Once you have a clear understanding of what you want, you should be able to choose the right type of exercise for you.

Cardio and Strength Training

 

Almost every type of exercise is categorized as either cardio or strength training. Cardio exercises include any type of exercise that has the aim to make you sweat, get your heart rate up, and move your muscles quickly. These include exercises like jogging, cycling, swimming, or playing sports. Strength training involves any exercise that causes you to strain one or more of your muscles at a time. This includes any exercise involving weights, medicine balls, or any type of weightlifting machine. Dumbbells, kettlebells, pull up bar accessories, and rowing machines can all be used for intensive strength training routines.

Finding The Right Exercise For You

 

Cardio exercises are best for slimming down and burning fat. So if you’re overweight and you went to get down to a lower weight, then cardio exercises are best for you. If you’re obese or very much overweight, a combination of both cardio and strength training would be best. If you lose weight too fast without building muscle, there could be some nasty side effects such as loose skin. That’s why it’s important to have a good balance. If you’re looking to bulk up, focus more on strength training.

You can modify your exercise routine even more through a combination of cardio and strength training. For example, if you want to achieve a lean muscular body, then you should focus on cardio but still do some strength training. The key is to focus on more repetitions rather than more weight. That means, instead of doing less repetitions with larger weights, do many repetitions with smaller weights. If you do the opposite, your muscles and body will get bigger. So, if you want more bulk, focus on larger weights.

Fitness and developing exercise routines can sometimes require a lot of experimentation. See what works for you. And soon enough, you should have the body you’ve been dreaming of.
